    Many thanks for this. We look forward to reading it in a moment. But this message is just to say that we had a letter from our friend John Mair a few days ago. He said that your postcard of the cat with collar and bell was ‘a very attractive design’, & added ‘Miffy is certainly a gifted artist’.

    John was a third-year studnet whom I taught when I arrived in Exeter in 1962. He wwnt on to do a doctorate at Birkbeck College & worked as a civil servant (Ministry of Transport, I think). After he retired, he got married — at the age of 70 (or was it 72?)
