Back in 2022 I was invited to exhibit my drawings in a “small but fierce” gallery in the Rhondda Valley.
Little did I know that the trip would shape the next two years of my comics work – interviewing residents about their memories of protest and drawing them up into a series of comics that, together, speak of the importance and efficacy of taking to the streets, singing, shouting and generally standing up for what’s right.
I’m going back to the Workers Gallery to talk about the project, now called The Noisy Valley in a nod to a rough and very apt translation of the word Rhondda.
Many of my subjects – several of whom I’ve only met via email, Zoom and Twitter DM – will be joining me to talk about their own stories of protest.
If you’ve visited the gallery before, you know it will be a good time. If you haven’t, now’s your chance! Porth is an easy and rather beautiful train ride (or cycle ride) from Cardiff and from there it’s a ten minute walk to the gallery in Ynyshir. Do join us!
PS: Missing me? 😜
Most of my posts are on Patreon these days – many of them are free and open for anyone to read, but there’s the option to support my work with a quid or two each month if you’d like to.
If you’re curious about The Noisy Valley there are many many posts there documenting my process and its creation; and paying subscribers can read all the completed chapters.
